NCBI Description

a scaffold protein in the post synaptic density that forms a complex with GKAP and PSD-95 [RGD, Feb 2006]

Uniprot Description

SHANK1: Seems to be an adapter protein in the postsynaptic density (PSD) of excitatory synapses that interconnects receptors of the postsynaptic membrane including NMDA-type and metabotropic glutamate receptors via complexes with GKAP/PSD-95 and Homer, respectively, and the actin-based cytoskeleton. Plays a role in the structural and functional organization of the dendritic spine and synaptic junction. Belongs to the SHANK family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Adaptor/scaffold

Cellular Component: postsynaptic membrane; neuron projection; membrane; dendrite; cytoplasm; dendritic spine; plasma membrane; ionotropic glutamate receptor complex; excitatory synapse; synapse; intracellular; cell junction; N-methyl-D-aspartate selective glutamate receptor complex

Molecular Function: protein C-terminus binding; somatostatin receptor binding; ionotropic glutamate receptor binding; identical protein binding; protein binding; receptor signaling complex scaffold activity; protein complex binding; GKAP/Homer scaffold activity; SH3 domain binding

Biological Process: synapse maturation; negative regulation of actin filament bundle formation; olfactory behavior; righting reflex; cytoskeletal anchoring; social behavior; habituation; determination of affect; long-term memory; adult behavior; protein complex assembly; neuromuscular process controlling balance; associative learning

Product Notes

The Rat SHANK1 shank1 (Catalog #AAA9317988) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA9317988 ELISA Kit recognizes Rat SHANK1. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SH3 and multiple ankyrin repeat domains 1, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
