Related Product Information for anti-Shank1 antibody
Background Info: Detects ~190-220 kDa (alternative splice variants). No cross-reactivity against Shank2 or Shank3.

Scientific Background: Shank proteins make up a family of scaffold proteins identified through their interaction with a variety of membrane and cytoplasmic proteins (3). Shank1 specifically might be relevant to human autism spectrum disorders, due to its differential role in specific cognitive processes, along with its importance for synapse structure and function in vivo (4).

NCBI Description

a scaffold protein in the post synaptic density that forms a complex with GKAP and PSD-95 [RGD, Feb 2006]

Uniprot Description

SHANK1: Seems to be an adapter protein in the postsynaptic density (PSD) of excitatory synapses that interconnects receptors of the postsynaptic membrane including NMDA-type and metabotropic glutamate receptors via complexes with GKAP/PSD-95 and Homer, respectively, and the actin-based cytoskeleton. Plays a role in the structural and functional organization of the dendritic spine and synaptic junction. Belongs to the SHANK family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Adaptor/scaffold

Cellular Component: postsynaptic membrane; neuron projection; membrane; dendrite; cytoplasm; dendritic spine; plasma membrane; ionotropic glutamate receptor complex; excitatory synapse; synapse; intracellular; cell junction; N-methyl-D-aspartate selective glutamate receptor complex

Molecular Function: protein C-terminus binding; somatostatin receptor binding; identical protein binding; ionotropic glutamate receptor binding; protein binding; receptor signaling complex scaffold activity; protein complex binding; GKAP/Homer scaffold activity; SH3 domain binding

Biological Process: synapse maturation; negative regulation of actin filament bundle formation; olfactory behavior; cytoskeletal anchoring; righting reflex; social behavior; determination of affect; habituation; long-term memory; adult behavior; protein complex assembly; neuromuscular process controlling balance; associative learning

Product Notes

The Shank1 shank1 (Catalog #AAA802134) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The SHANK1 Antibody: HRP reacts with Mouse, Human, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Shank1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). 1-10ug/mL (WB), 0.1-1.0ug/mL (Perox) (IHC/ICC), 1.0-10ug/mL (IF). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Shank1 shank1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Shank1, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
