Function
Important transcription factor regulating theexpression of genes involved in immune andinflammatory responses (PubMed:1741402, PubMed:9374525,PubMed:12048245, PubMed:18647749). Playsalso a significant role in adipogenesis, as wellas in the gluconeogenic pathway, liverregeneration, and hematopoiesis. Theconsensus recognition site is 5'-T[TG]NNGNAA[TG]-3'. Its functional capacityis governed by protein interactions andpost-translational protein modifications.During early embryogenesis, plays essentialand redundant functions with CEBPA. Has apromitotic effect on many cell types such ashepatocytes and adipocytes but has anantiproliferative effect on T-cells byrepressing MYC expression, facilitatingdifferentiation along the T-helper 2 lineage.Binds to regulatory regions of severalacute-phase and cytokines genes and plays arole in the regulation of acute-phase reactionand inflammation. Plays also a role inintracellular bacteria killing (By similarity).During adipogenesis, is rapidly expressedand, after activation by phosphorylation, induces CEBPA and PPARG, which turn on theseries of adipocyte genes that give rise to theadipocyte phenotype. The delayedtransactivation of the CEBPA and PPARGgenes by CEBPB appears necessary to allowmitotic clonal expansion and therebyprogression of terminal differentiation(PubMed:20829347). Essentialfor female reproduction because of a criticalrole in ovarian follicle development (Bysimilarity). Restricts osteoclastogenesis:together with NFE2L1; represses expressionof DSPP during odontoblast differentiation (Bysimilarity).
Cellular Location
Nucleus. Cytoplasm. Note=Translocates tothe nucleus when phosphorylated at Ser-288.In T-cells when sumoylated drawn topericentric heterochromatin thereby allowingproliferation (By similarity).{ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:P28033,ECO:0000269|PubMed:9374525
Preparation and Storage
Maintain refrigerated at 2-8 degree C for up to 2 weeks. For long term storage store at -20 degree C in small aliquots to prevent freeze-thaw cycles.

Related Product Information for anti-CEBPB antibody
CEBPB is a bZIP transcription factor which can bind as a homodimer to certain DNA regulatory regions. It can also form heterodimers with the related proteins CEBP-alpha, CEBP-delta, and CEBP-gamma. This protein is important in the regulation of genes involved in immune and inflammatory responses and has been shown to bind to the IL-1 response element in the IL-6 gene, as well as to regulatory regions of several acute-phase and cytokine genes. In addition, It can bind the promoter and upstream element and stimulate the expression of the collagen type I gene.

NCBI Description

This intronless gene encodes a transcription factor that contains a basic leucine zipper (bZIP) domain. The encoded protein functions as a homodimer but can also form heterodimers with CCAAT/enhancer-binding proteins alpha, delta, and gamma. Activity of this protein is important in the regulation of genes involved in immune and inflammatory responses, among other processes. The use of alternative in-frame AUG start codons results in multiple protein isoforms, each with distinct biological functions. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2013]

Uniprot Description

C/EBP-beta: a bZIP transcription factor which can form homodimers or heterodimers with the related proteins CEBP-alpha, -delta and -gamma. Involved in immune and inflammatory responses. Specifically binds to regulatory regions of genes encoding IL-6, other cytokines and several acute-phase proteins. There are two forms of C/EBPbeta, the 38kDa liver activating protein (LAP) and the 20kDa liver inhibitory protein (LIP) which may be products of alternative translation. LAP is a transcriptional activator while LIP may inhibit C/EBPbeta transcriptional activity. Phosphorylated and activated by ERK1/2.

Product Notes

The CEBPB cebpb (Catalog #AAA9204875) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The immunogen sequence is 271-298. The CEBPB Antibody (C-term) reacts with Human (Predicted Reactivity: Bovine, Chicken, Mouse, Rat) and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CEBPB can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), ELISA (EIA), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS). WB: 1:1000 IHC-P: 1:50~100 FC: 1:10~50. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CEBPB cebpb for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CEBPB, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
