NCBI Description

DNA methylation is the major modification of eukaryotic genomes and plays an essential role in mammalian development. This gene belongs to a family of nuclear proteins which are characterized by the presence of a methyl-CpG binding domain (MBD). The encoded protein is a subunit of the NuRD, a multisubunit complex containing nucleosome remodeling and histone deacetylase activities. Unlike the other family members, the encoded protein is not capable of binding to methylated DNA. The protein mediates the association of metastasis-associated protein 2 with the core histone deacetylase complex. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants of this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2013]

Uniprot Description

MBD3: methyl-CpG binding (MBD) proteins appear to bind differentially methylated domains (DMDs) of DNA, to recruit repression complexes, and to silence the locus. The methyl CpG binding domain of human MBD3 may not directly bind mCpG but does interact with the NuRD/Mi2 components HDAC1 and MTA2. Plays a role in histone deacetylation and nucleosome remodeling. Increased levels have been reported in lung cancer and glioblastomas and may be a therapeutic target.

Protein type: Transcription, coactivator/corepressor; Gene silencing

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19p13.3

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; heterochromatin; protein complex; cytoplasm; nuclear chromatin; NuRD complex

Molecular Function: protein binding; nucleosomal DNA binding; methyl-CpG binding; DNA binding

Biological Process: tissue development; establishment and/or maintenance of chromatin architecture; transcription, DNA-dependent; methylation-dependent chromatin silencing; in utero embryonic development; ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling; histone acetylation; negative regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter

Product Notes

The MBD3 mbd3 (Catalog #AAA9200509) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The MBD3 Antibody (C-term) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's MBD3 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), ELISA (EIA). WB~~1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MBD3 mbd3 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MBD3, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
