The Rab family small G proteins, consisting of more than 30 members, regulate intracellular vesicle trafficking, including exocytosis, endocytosis, and recycling. The WDR44 (also called Rabphilin-11, RPH11, SYM-4 and RAB11BP) gene, located on chromosome Xq24, encodes a member of the WD-repeat protein family which is a downstream effector for RAB11A and may play a role in vesicle recycling. WDR44 may play a role in endosome recycling. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. WDR44 is associated with some diseases, including Keratosis, Seborrheic and Griscelli Syndrome, Type 3.
