Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for aFGF has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any aFGF present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for aFGF is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of aFGF bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. This protein functions as a modifier of endothelial cell migration and proliferation, as well as an angiogenic factor. It acts as a mitogen for a variety of mesoderm- and neuroectoderm-derived cells in vitro, thus is thought to be involved in organogenesis. Multiple alternatively spliced variants encoding different isoforms have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2009]

Uniprot Description

Function: Plays an important role in the regulation of cell survival, cell division, angiogenesis, cell differentiation and cell migration. Functions as potent mitogen in vitro.3 PublicationsManual assertion based on experiment in:Ref.20

Product Notes

The Human FGF1 fgf1 (Catalog #AAA704562) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA704562 ELISA Kit recognizes Human FGF1. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "fibroblast growth factor 1 (acidic), ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
