Biological Activity
Determined by an in vivo assay using healthy wild type male mice (C57BL/6J). Mice were treated via intraperitoneal injection once at a dose of 4 ug Nesfatin-1/gm of body weight. Significant effects on body weight and food consumption were observed relative to saline-treated controls.
Related Product Information for NUCB2 active protein
Nesfatin-1 is a metabolic polypeptide encoded in the N-terminal region of the precursor protein, Nucleobindin2 (NUCB2). Originally identified as a hypothalamic neuropeptide, Nesfatin-1 is also expressed in other areas of the brain, and in pancreatic isletsbeta-cells, gastric endocrine cells and adipocytes. Nesfatin-1 suppresses food intake and can regulate energy metabolism in a Leptin independent manner. Recombinant human Nesfatin-1 is a 9.7 kDa protein containing 82 amino acid residues.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a protein with a suggested role in calcium level maintenance, eating regulation in the hypothalamus, and release of tumor necrosis factor from vascular endothelial cells. This protein binds calcium and has EF-folding domains. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011]

Uniprot Description

Function: Calcium-binding protein. May have a role in calcium homeostasis.Nesfatin-1: Anorexigenic peptide, seems to play an important role in hypothalamic pathways regulating food intake and energy homeostasis, acting in a leptin-independent manner. May also exert hypertensive roles and modulate blood pressure through directly acting on peripheral arterial resistance

By similarity.

Subcellular location: Golgi apparatus. Membrane; Peripheral membrane protein. Cytoplasm. Secreted Ref.8. Endoplasmic reticulum

By similarity. Nucleus envelope

By similarity. Note: Golgi retention is mediated by its N-terminal region. Ref.8Nesfatin-1: Secreted Ref.8.

Tissue specificity: Predominantly expressed in spleen, testis and normal stomach. Ref.3

Polymorphism: Deletion of Gln-402 is frequent.

Miscellaneous: NEFA stands for N=DNA-binding; EF=EF-hand; A=Acidic region.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the nucleobindin family.Contains 2 EF-hand domains.

Product Notes

The NUCB2 nucb2 (Catalog #AAA691633) is an Active Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Human Nesfatin reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. The amino acid sequence is listed below: VPIDIDKTKV QNIHPVESAK IEPPDTGLYY DEYLKQVIDV LETDKH FREK LQKADIEEIK SGRLSKELDL VSHHVRTKLD EL. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Nesfatin, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
