Related Product Information for anti-AQP1 antibody
Water is a critical component of all living cells. Interestingly, tissue membranes show a great degree of water permeability. Mammalian red cells, renal proximal tubules, and descending thin limb of Henle are extraordinarily permeable to water. Water crosses hydrophobic plasma membranes either by simple diffusion or through a facilitative transport mechanism mediated by special protein "aquaporin". Aquaporin, are integral membrane proteins from a larger family of major intrinsic proteins (MIP) that form pores in the membrane of biological cells. Over the last decade, genes for several members of the aquaporin family have been cloned, expressed, and their distribution studied in many tissues. Aquaporin 1 (APQ1) is a 28kD integral membrane protein which was originally identified in red blood cells and renal proximal tubules. AQP1 is also expressed by the choroid plexus and various other tissues.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a small integral membrane protein with six bilayer spanning domains that functions as a water channel protein. This protein permits passive transport of water along an osmotic gradient. This gene is a possible candidate for disorders involving imbalance in ocular fluid movement. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2016]

Uniprot Description

AQP1: Forms a water-specific channel that provides the plasma membranes of red cells and kidney proximal tubules with high permeability to water, thereby permitting water to move in the direction of an osmotic gradient. Belongs to the MIP/aquaporin (TC 1.A.8) family.

Product Notes

The AQP1 aqp1 (Catalog #AAA6463877) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Aquaporin 1 (AQP1, CHIP28) (APC) reacts with Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Aquaporin 1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the AQP1 aqp1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Aquaporin 1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
