NEK4 or Never In Mitosis A-related kinase 4 is a serine/threonine protein kinase. Northern blot show NEK4 is expressed as 2 mRNAs of 4.0 kb and 6.8 kb in heart and several other tissues. NEK4 gene encodes an 841-amino acid polypeptide and the levels of NEK4 mRNA remain invariant throughout the cell cycle (1). Nek4 has been identified in a genetic screen as a mediator of response to Taxol (2). After Taxol treatment, NEK4 promoted microtubule outgrowth, whereas NEK4 deficiency impaired G(2)-M arrest and decreased formation of mitotic-like asters. In contrast, NEK4 deficiency sensitized cells to vincristine, which destabilizes microtubules.

NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
The protein encoded by this gene is a serine/threonine protein kinase required for normal entry into replicative senescence. The encoded protein also is involved in cell cycle arrest in response to double-stranded DNA damage. Finally, this protein plays a role in maintaining cilium integrity, and defects in this gene have been associated with ciliopathies. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2017]

Product Notes
The NEK4 (Catalog #AAA517306) is a Recombinant Protein produced from Sf9 insect cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's NEK4 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Kinase Assay, Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the NEK4 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "NEK4, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
