NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the cyclin-dependent protein kinase family. The protein promotes entry into S phase, in part by activating members of the E2F family of transcription factors. The protein also associates with cyclin C and phosphorylates the retinoblastoma 1 protein to promote exit from G0. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Function: Serine/threonine-protein kinase that plays a critical role in the control of the eukaryotic cell cycle; involved in G0-G1 and G1-S cell cycle transitions. Interacts with CCNC/cyclin-C during interphase. Phosphorylates histone H1, ATF1, RB1 and CABLES1. ATF1 phosphorylation triggers ATF1 transactivation and transcriptional activities, and promotes cell proliferation and transformation. CDK3/cyclin-C mediated RB1 phosphorylation is required for G0-G1 transition. Promotes G1-S transition probably by contributing to the activation of E2F1, E2F2 and E2F3 in a RB1-independent manner. Ref.3 Ref.4 Ref.5

Catalytic activity: ATP + a protein = ADP + a phosphoprotein.

Subunit structure: Interacts with CABLES1 and CABLES2

By similarity. Interacts with ATF1. Binding to CCNC/cyclin-C promotes RB1 phosphorylation. Ref.4 Ref.5

Tissue specificity: Expressed in cancer cell lines and glioblastoma tissue. Ref.5

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. CMGC Ser/Thr protein kinase family. CDC2/CDKX subfamily.Contains 1 protein kinase domain.

Product Notes

The CDK3, cdk3 (Catalog #AAA515399) is a Recombinant Protein produced from Sf9 insect cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The tag for this protein is N-terminal GST!!Source Note||Recombinant human full-length CDK3 was expressed by baculovirus in Sf9 insect cells. AAA Biotech's CDK3, can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Kinase Assay, Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CDK3, cdk3 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CDK3,, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
