Rat Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH) ELISA Kit
Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the competitive inhibition enzyme immunoassay technique. A monoclonal antibody specific to ACTH has been pre-coated onto a microplate. A competitive inhibition reaction is launched between biotin labeled ACTH and unlabeled ACTH (Standards or samples) with the pre-coated antibody specific to ACTH. After incubation the unbound conjugate is washed off. Next, Avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. The amount of bound HRP conjugate is reverse proportional to the concentration of ACTH in the sample. After addition of the substrate solution, the intensity of color developed is reverse proportional to the concentration of ACTH in the sample.
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene encodes a polypeptide hormone precursor that undergoes extensive, tissue-specific, post-translational processing. Processing yields several biologically active peptides, which are involved in diverse cellular functions, such as energy homeostasis, steroidogenesis, and increased melanin production in melanocytes. In mouse deficiency of this gene is associated with obesity, defects in adrenal development, and altered pigmentation. A pseudogene of this gene is located on chromosome 19. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2013]
Uniprot Description
POMC: ACTH stimulates the adrenal glands to release cortisol. Defects in POMC may be associated with susceptibility to obesity (OBESITY). It is a condition characterized by an increase of body weight beyond the limitation of skeletal and physical requirements, as the result of excessive accumulation of body fat. Defects in POMC are the cause of pro-opiomelanocortinin deficiency (POMCD). Affected individuals present early-onset obesity, adrenal insufficiency and red hair. Belongs to the POMC family.

Product Notes
The Rat ACTH pomc (Catalog #AAA453311) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA453311 ELISA Kit recognizes Rat ACTH. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH), ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
