NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily, and contactin family, which mediate cell surface interactions during nervous system development. This protein is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored neuronal membrane protein that functions as a cell adhesion molecule. It may play a role in the formation of axon connections in the developing nervous system. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2011]

Uniprot Description

CNTN5: Contactins mediate cell surface interactions during nervous system development. Has some neurite outgrowth-promoting activity in the cerebral cortical neurons but not in hippocampal neurons. Probably involved in neuronal activity in the auditory system. Belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. Contactin family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Cell adhesion; Membrane protein, GPI anchor

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11q22.1

Cellular Component: cytoplasm

Product Notes

The CNTN5 cntn5 (Catalog #AAA2543409) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Mouse anti Human Contactin 5/CNTN5 Monoclonal Antibody reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Contactin 5/CNTN5 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA). ELISA: 0.5-1 mug/mL. This antibody can be used at 0.5-1 mug/mL with the appropriate secondary reagents to detect CNTN5. The detection limit for CNTN5 is approximately 0.078 ng/well. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CNTN5 cntn5 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Contactin 5/CNTN5, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
