Host
Sheep
Clonality
Polyclonal
Isotype
IgG
Specificity
This item is specific for the beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) and recognizes both the free subunit and the whole molecule. Negligible reactivity has been observed with hLH, hTSH and hFSH.
Human chorionic gonadotrophin is a peptide hormone produced by placental syncytiotrophoblasts. It acts to maintain the corpus luteum until the developing placenta is able to produce the required levels of oestrogen and progesterone.

hCG shares a common alpha chain with the pituitary hormones FSH, TSH and LH, but has a unique beta chain which is recognised by this antibody.

Preparation and Storage
Store at 4 degree C or at -20 degree C if preferred. Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended. This product should be stored undiluted. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.
Shelf Life: 18 months from date of despatch.

NCBI Description

This gene is a member of the glycoprotein hormone beta chain family and encodes the beta 3 subunit of chorionic gonadotropin (CG). Glycoprotein hormones are heterodimers consisting of a common alpha subunit and an unique beta subunit which confers biological specificity. CG is produced by the trophoblastic cells of the placenta and stimulates the ovaries to synthesize the steroids that are essential for the maintenance of pregnancy. The beta subunit of CG is encoded by 6 genes which are arranged in tandem and inverted pairs on chromosome 19q13.3 and contiguous with the luteinizing hormone beta subunit gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

CGB: Stimulates the ovaries to synthesize the steroids that are essential for the maintenance of pregnancy. Belongs to the glycoprotein hormones subunit beta family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The hCG BETA cgb (Catalog #AAA220743) is an Antibody produced from Sheep and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's hCG can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), Radioimmunoassays (RIA). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the hCG BETA cgb for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "hCG, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
