NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the osteocalcin/matrix Gla family of proteins. The encoded vitamin K-dependent protein is secreted by chondrocytes and vascular smooth muscle cells, and functions as a physiological inhibitor of ectopic tissue calcification. Carboxylation status of the encoded protein is associated with calcification of the vasculature in human patients with cardiovascular disease and calcification of the synovial membranes in osteoarthritis patients. Mutations in this gene cause Keutel syndrome in human patients, which is characterized by abnormal cartilage calcification, peripheral pulmonary stenosis and facial hypoplasia. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2016]

Uniprot Description

MGP: Associates with the organic matrix of bone and cartilage. Thought to act as an inhibitor of bone formation. Defects in MGP are the cause of Keutel syndrome (KS). KS is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by abnormal cartilage calcification, peripheral pulmonary stenosis neural hearing loss and midfacial hypoplasia. Belongs to the osteocalcin/matrix Gla protein family.

Protein type: Extracellular matrix; Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 12p12.3

Cellular Component: extracellular exosome; extracellular matrix; proteinaceous extracellular matrix

Molecular Function: calcium ion binding; extracellular matrix structural constituent; protein binding; structural constituent of bone

Biological Process: cartilage condensation; cell differentiation; ossification; regulation of bone mineralization

Disease: Keutel Syndrome

Product Notes

The MGP mgp (Catalog #AAA2006834) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Polyclonal Antibody to Matrix Gla Protein (MGP) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Matrix Gla Protein (MGP) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) - Formalin/Paraffin, ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB). Western blotting: 1:100-400 Immunocytochemistry in formalin fixed cells: 1:100-500 Immunohistochemistry in formalin fixed frozen section: 1:100-500 Immunohistochemistry in paraffin section: 1:50-200 Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay: 1:100-200. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MGP mgp for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: Antigen: The target protein is fused with two N-terminal Tags, His-tag and its sequence is listed below. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Matrix Gla Protein (MGP), Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
