Intended Uses: This sandwich kit is for the accurate quantitative detection of human Serum Amyloid P (also known as SAP) in serum, plasma, cell culture supernates, cell lysates, tissue homogenates.

Principles of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with human SAP antibody. SAP present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated human SAP Antibody is added and binds to SAP in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated SAP antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of human SAP. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a glycoprotein, belonging to the pentraxin family of proteins, which has a characteristic pentameric organization. These family members have considerable sequence homology which is thought to be the result of gene duplication. The binding of the encoded protein to proteins in the pathological amyloid cross-beta fold suggests its possible role as a chaperone. This protein is also thought to control the degradation of chromatin. It has been demonstrated that this protein binds to apoptotic cells at an early stage, which raises the possibility that it is involved in dealing with apoptotic cells in vivo.
