NCBI Description

This gene encodes an integral membrane protein containing numerous CSPG (chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan element) repeats and Calx-beta domains. The encoded protein localizes to the basement membrane, forming a ternary complex that plays a role in epidermal-dermal interactions. This protein is important for the integrity of skin and renal epithelia. Mutations in this gene are associated with Fraser syndrome. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2014]

Uniprot Description

FREM2: Extracellular matrix protein required for maintenance of the integrity of the skin epithelium and for maintenance of renal epithelia. May be required for epidermal adhesion. Defects in FREM2 are a cause of Fraser syndrome (FRASS). Fraser syndrome is a multisystem malformation usually comprising cryptophthalmos, cutaneous syndactyly, ear abnormalities, renal agenesis and congenital heart defects. Belongs to the FRAS1 family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Extracellular matrix; Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 13q13.3

Cellular Component: plasma membrane; integral to membrane; basement membrane

Molecular Function: calcium ion binding

Biological Process: morphogenesis of an epithelium; cell communication; homophilic cell adhesion; inner ear development

Product Notes

The FREM2 frem2 (Catalog #AAA152662) is a Blocking Peptide and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's FREM2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Blocking (BL). FREM2 peptide is used for blocking the activity of FREM2 antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the FREM2 frem2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "FREM2, Blocking Peptide" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
