Activity Data (Interleukin-6 (IL-6), a pro-inflammatory cytokine and an anti-inflammatory myokine, plays important roles in the acute phase reaction, inflammation, hematopoiesis, bone metabolism, and cancer progression. It has been reported that IL-6 significantly increased the MMP-10 protein lever in the human lung cancer A549 cells through the JAK/STAT signaling pathway. Briefly, A549 cells were seeded into 6-well cell culture clusters and allowed to grow to 50-70% confluence, then different concentrations of IL-6 was added. After incubated for 24h, the protein levels of MMP-10 in the cell supernatant were determined by Western blot.Result: MMP-10 protein lever significantly increased in A549 cells due to the stimulation of IL-6, the data was shown in Figure 1.)

NCBI Description

a cytokine involved in development and possibly in neurodegenerative processes [RGD, Feb 2006]

Uniprot Description

Cytokine with a wide variety of biological functions. It is a potent inducer of the acute phase response. Plays an essential role in the final differentiation of B-cells into Ig-secreting cells Involved in lymphocyte and monocyte differentiation. Acts on B-cells, T-cells, hepatocytes, hematopoietic progenitor cells and cells of the CNS. Required for the generation of T(H)17 cells. Also acts as a myokine. It is discharged into the bloodstream after muscle contraction and acts to increase the breakdown of fats and to improve insulin resistance. It induces myeloma and plasmacytoma growth and induces nerve cells differentiation ().

Product Notes

The IL6 il6 (Catalog #AAA2097342) is an Active Protein produced from 293F cell and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Active Interleukin 6 (IL6) reacts with Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Interleukin 6 (IL6) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Cell culture, Activity Assays. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the IL6 il6 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Interleukin 6 (IL6), Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
