Related Product Information for SELL western blot control
L-Selectin belongs to a family of divalent cation dependent carbohydrate-binding glycoproteins or adhesion molecules. L-Selectin is expressed constitutively on lymphocytes, monocytes and granulocytes and interacts specifically with carbohydrate groups on activated endothelial cells. L-Selectin may be shed by proteolytic cleavage and circulating levels in biological fluids may be used as an indicator of various pathological conditions. Recombinant human L-selectin comprises a 294 amino acid fragment (39-332) corresponding to the mature L-Selectin extracellular domain and is expressed in E Coli with an amino-terminal hexahistidine tag. This product is not intended for therapeutic use.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a cell surface adhesion molecule that belongs to a family of adhesion/homing receptors. The encoded protein contains a C-type lectin-like domain, a calcium-binding epidermal growth factor-like domain, and two short complement-like repeats. The gene product is required for binding and subsequent rolling of leucocytes on endothelial cells, facilitating their migration into secondary lymphoid organs and inflammation sites. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms in this gene have been associated with various diseases including immunoglobulin A nephropathy. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2009]

Uniprot Description

SELL: Cell surface adhesion protein. Mediates the adherence of lymphocytes to endothelial cells of high endothelial venules in peripheral lymph nodes. Promotes initial tethering and rolling of leukocytes in endothelia. Belongs to the selectin/LECAM family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1q23-q25

Cellular Component: integral to plasma membrane; plasma membrane

Molecular Function: glycosphingolipid binding; heparin binding; protease binding; protein binding

Biological Process: leukocyte migration; regulation of immune response

Disease: Iga Nephropathy, Susceptibility To, 1

Product Notes

The SELL sell (Catalog #AAA343084) is a Western Blot Control and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "L-Selectin, Western Blot Control" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
