VEGF-C is a member of the PDGF/VEGF family which is active in angiogenesis and endothelial cell growth, and can also affect the permeability of blood vessels. It is structurally and functionally similar to vascular endothelial growth factor D. VEGFC is an osmosensitive, hypertonicity-driven gene intimately involved in salt-induced hypertension and tonicity-responsive enhancer-binding protein (TONEBP)-VEGFC signaling in mononuclear phagocytes is a major determinant of extracellular volume and blood pressure homeostasis (1).VEGF-C is also essential for embryonic survival and lymphangiogenesis (2).

NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the platelet-derived growth factor/vascular endothelial growth factor (PDGF/VEGF) family, is active in angiogenesis and endothelial cell growth, and can also affect the permeability of blood vessels. This secreted protein undergoes a complex proteolytic maturation, generating multiple processed forms which bind and activate VEGFR-3 receptors. Only the fully processed form can bind and activate VEGFR-2 receptors. This protein is structurally and functionally similar to vascular endothelial growth factor D. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Uniprot Description
VEGFC: Growth factor active in angiogenesis, and endothelial cell growth, stimulating their proliferation and migration and also has effects on the permeability of blood vessels. May function in angiogenesis of the venous and lymphatic vascular systems during embryogenesis, and also in the maintenance of differentiated lymphatic endothelium in adults. Binds and activates VEGFR-2 (KDR/FLK1) and VEGFR-3 (FLT4) receptors. Homodimer; non-covalent and antiparallel. Spleen, lymph node, thymus, appendix, bone marrow, heart, placenta, ovary, skeletal muscle, prostate, testis, colon and small intestine and fetal liver, lung and kidney, but not in peripheral blood lymphocyte. Belongs to the PDGF/VEGF growth factor family.

Product Notes
The VEGF-C vegfc (Catalog #AAA517783) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's VEGF-C can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Cell Assay. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the VEGF-C vegfc for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "VEGF-C, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
