Related Product Information for SULT2A1 recombinant protein
Background: Hydroxysteroid sulfotransferase (SULT2A1) is a key enzyme in the testicular and hepatic metabolism of 5alpha-androstenone, which is a major component of the off-odor and off-flavor in pork known as boar taint. Sulfotransferase enzymes catalyze the sulfate conjugation of many hormones, neurotransmitters, drugs, and xenobiotic compounds. These cytosolic enzymes are different in their tissue distributions and substrate specificities. The gene structure (number and length of exons) is similar among family members. SULT2A1 is a sulfo-conjugating phase II enzyme expressed at very high levels in the liver and intestine, the two major first-pass metabolic tissues, and in the steroidogenic adrenal tissue. SULT2A1 acts preferentially on the hydroxysteroids dehydroepiandrosterone, testosterone/dihydrotestosterone, and pregnenolone and on cholesterol-derived amphipathic sterol bile acids.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the sulfotransferase family. Sulfotransferases aid in the metabolism of drugs and endogenous compounds by converting these substances into more hydrophilic water-soluble sulfate conjugates that can be easily excreted. This protein catalyzes the sulfation of steroids and bile acids in the liver and adrenal glands, and may have a role in the inherited adrenal androgen excess in women with polycystic ovary syndrome. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2010]

Uniprot Description

SULT2A1: Sulfotransferase that utilizes 3'-phospho-5'-adenylyl sulfate (PAPS) as sulfonate donor to catalyze the sulfonation of steroids and bile acids in the liver and adrenal glands. Belongs to the sulfotransferase 1 family.

Protein type: EC 2.8.2.14; Transferase

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19q13.3

Cellular Component: cytosol

Molecular Function: sulfotransferase activity; protein binding; bile-salt sulfotransferase activity

Biological Process: steroid metabolic process; bile acid catabolic process; xenobiotic metabolic process; digestion; sulfation; cellular lipid metabolic process; 3'-phosphoadenosine 5'-phosphosulfate metabolic process

Product Notes

The SULT2A1 sult2a1 (Catalog #AAA8120814) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The amino acid sequence is listed below: Ser2-Glu28 5. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SULT2A1, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
