Sorbitol Dehydrogenase Active Protein | SORD active protein
Sorbitol Dehydrogenase (SDH)
Sorbitol dehydrogenase is an enzyme in carbohydrate metabolism converting sorbitol, the sugar alcohol form of glucose, into fructose. Together with aldose reductase, it provides a way for the body to produce fructose from glucose without using ATP. Sorbitol dehydrogenase uses NAD+ as a cofactor; its reaction is sorbitol + NAD+ --> fructose + NADH + H+.
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
catalyzes the conversion of L-iditol and NAD+ to L-sorbose and NADH in the polyol pathway; acts as a tetramer with one zinc atom per subunit [RGD, Feb 2006]
Uniprot Description
SORD: Converts sorbitol to fructose. Part of the polyol pathway that plays an important role in sperm physiology. May play a role in the sperm motility by providing an energetic source for sperm. Belongs to the zinc-containing alcohol dehydrogenase family.

Product Notes
The SORD sord (Catalog #AAA170365) is an Active Protein and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Sorbitol Dehydrogenase, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
