Intended Use: The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm using a spectrophotometer. The calibration standards are assayed at the same time as the samples and allow the operator to produce a standard curve of Optical Density versusM-CSFconcentration. The concentration ofM-CSFin the samples is then determined by comparing the O.D. of the samples to the standard curve.

The protein encoded by this gene is a cytokine that controls the production, differentiation, and function of macrophages. The active form of the protein is found extracellularly as a disulfide-linked homodimer, and is thought to be produced by proteolytic cleavage of membrane-bound precursors.
