Intended Uses: This sandwich kit is for the accurate quantitative detection of Rat Insulin-like Growth Factor-binding Protein Complex Acid Labile Subunit (also known as IGFALS) in serum, plasma, cell culture supernates, cell lysates, tissue homogenates.

Principle of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Rat IGFALS antibody. IGFALS present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat IGFALS Antibody is added and binds to IGFALS in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated IGFALS antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat IGFALS. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

The protein encoded by this gene is a serum protein that binds insulin-like growth factors, increasing their half-life and their vascular localization. Production of the encoded protein, which contains twenty leucine-rich repeats, is stimulated by growth hormone. Defects in this gene are a cause of acid-labile subunit deficiency, which maifests itself in a delayed and slow puberty.
