Intended Uses: This sandwich kit is for the accurate quantitative detection of Rat Insulin Like Growth Factor 3 (also known as IGF-3) in serum, plasma, cell culture supernates, cell lysates, tissue homogenates.

Principle of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Rat IGF-3 antibody. IGF-3 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat IGF-3 Antibody is added and binds to IGF-3 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated IGF-3 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat IGF-3. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

This gene encodes a member of the insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-binding protein (IGFBP) family. IGFBPs bind IGFs with high affinity, and regulate IGF availability in body fluids and tissues and modulate IGF binding to its receptors. This protein binds IGF-I and IGF-II with relatively low affinity, and belongs to a subfamily of low-affinity IGFBPs. It also stimulates prostacyclin production and cell adhesion. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene, and one variant has been associated with retinal arterial macroaneurysm (PMID:21835307).
