Related Product Information for anti-MIWI antibody
The Drosophila piwi gene was identified as being required for the self-renewal of germline stem cells (1). Piwi homologs are well conserved among various species including Arabidopsis, C. elegans, and Homo sapiens (1). Both Miwi and Mili proteins are mouse homologs of Piwi and contain a C-terminal Piwi domain (2). Miwi and Mili bind to Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) in male germ cells and are essential for spermatogenesis in mice (3-5).

Uniprot Description

Endoribonuclease that plays a central role in postnatal germ cells by repressing transposable elements and preventing their mobilization, which is essential for the germline integrity (PubMed:11578866, PubMed:22121019, PubMed:21237665). Acts via the piRNA metabolic process, which mediates the repression of transposable elements during meiosis by forming complexes composed of piRNAs and Piwi proteins and governs the methylation and subsequent repression of transposons (PubMed:11578866, PubMed:22121019, PubMed:21237665). Directly binds methylated piRNAs, a class of 24 to 30 nucleotide RNAs that are generated by a Dicer-independent mechanism and are primarily derived from transposons and other repeated sequence elements (PubMed:11578866, PubMed:22121019, PubMed:21237665). Strongly prefers a uridine in the first position of their guide (g1U preference, also named 1U-bias) (PubMed:24757166). Not involved in the piRNA amplification loop, also named ping-pong amplification cycle (PubMed:22121019). Acts as an endoribonuclease that cleaves transposon messenger RNAs (PubMed:22121019). Besides their function in transposable elements repression, piRNAs are probably involved in other processes during meiosis such as translation regulation (PubMed:16938833). Probable component of some RISC complex, which mediates RNA cleavage and translational silencing (PubMed:16938833). Also plays a role in the formation of chromatoid bodies and is required for some miRNAs stability (PubMed:16787948). Required to sequester RNF8 in the cytoplasm until late spermatogenesis; RNF8 being released upon ubiquitination and degradation of PIWIL1 (PubMed:28552346).

Product Notes

The MIWI piwil1 (Catalog #AAA8502686) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The MIWI Antibody reacts with Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's MIWI can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunoprecipitation (IP). WB: 1:500-1:2000 IHC: 1:50-1:200 IF: 1:20-1:100 IP: 1:20-1:100. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MIWI piwil1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MIWI, Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
