Related Product Information for anti-VIP antibody
Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP), a 28 amino acid peptide originally isolated from porcine duodenum, is present not only in gastrointestinal tissues but also in neural tissues, possibly as a neurotransmitter, and exhibits a wide variety of biological actions. It belongs to the glucagon family, and in the duodenum is known to stimulate myocardial contractility, cause vasodilation, increase glycogenolysis, lower arterial blood pressure and relax the smooth muscle of trachea, stomach and gall bladder. Ectopic endocrine tumors secreting VIP (VIPomas) give rise to raised plasma levels of VIP and are associated with watery diarrhea, hypokalemia and achlorhydria syndrome. This antibody detects ganglion cells in both the superficial and deep plexus of the wall of the small bowel in human. The VIP producing tumors are usually neuroblastomas of endocrine tumors in the pancreas. It is also a modulator of joint pain.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the glucagon family. It stimulates myocardial contractility, causes vasodilation, increases glycogenolysis, lowers arterial blood pressure and relaxes the smooth muscle of trachea, stomach and gall bladder. The protein also acts as an antimicrobial peptide with antibacterial and antifungal activity. Alternative splicing occurs at this locus and two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2014]

Uniprot Description

VIP: VIP causes vasodilation, lowers arterial blood pressure, stimulates myocardial contractility, increases glycogenolysis and relaxes the smooth muscle of trachea, stomach and gall bladder. Belongs to the glucagon family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 6q25.2

Cellular Component: extracellular region

Molecular Function: hormone activity; neuropeptide hormone activity; protein binding

Product Notes

The VIP vip (Catalog #AAA555735) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The VIP (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide) antiserum, rabbit reacts with Guinea Pig, Mouse, Primate, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's VIP (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry. Immunohistochemistry: 1:300-1:500 -Fluorescent staining; 1:4000-1:6000 Biotin-Streptavidin/HRP staining Dilutions listed as a recommendation. Optimal dilution should be determined by investigator. Note that a change in the fixation or buffering system as used in our protocol may change the configuration of the protein and, therefore, may alter the reactivity with the tissue tested. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the VIP vip for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "VIP (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide), Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
