Related Product Information for PYGB recombinant protein
Glycogen Phosphorylase is an enzyme that catalyzes the degradation of Glycogen in animals by releasing glucose-1-phosphate from the terminal alpha-1,4-glycosidic bond. This enzyme exists in two forms: an active phosphorylated form (Phosphorylase A) and an inactive un-phosphorylated form (Phosphorylase B). Both a and b forms of phosphorylase exist as homodimers. In mammals, the major isozymes of glycogen phosphorylase are found in muscle, liver and brain tissue. Glycogen Phosphorylase- a sensitive marker for the AMI identification within 4 hours after the onset of chest pain. It has also been shown that GPBB is increased in a considerable proportion of AMI patients within 2-3 hours from chest pain onset. GPBB is increased early in patients with unstable angina. Glycogen Phosphorylase can also be used as a sensitive marker for the detection of peri-operative myocardial ischaemia and infarction in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting.

Recombinant Human Glycogen Phosphorylase is a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain having a molecular mass of 97kD.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a glycogen phosphorylase found predominantly in the brain. The encoded protein forms homodimers which can associate into homotetramers, the enzymatically active form of glycogen phosphorylase. The activity of this enzyme is positively regulated by AMP and negatively regulated by ATP, ADP, and glucose-6-phosphate. This enzyme catalyzes the rate-determining step in glycogen degradation. Uniprot Description

PYGB: Phosphorylase is an important allosteric enzyme in carbohydrate metabolism. Enzymes from different sources differ in their regulatory mechanisms and in their natural substrates. However, all known phosphorylases share catalytic and structural properties. Belongs to the glycogen phosphorylase family.

Product Notes

The PYGB pygb (Catalog #AAA636821) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. Immunoassays and Western Blot. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PYGB pygb for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Glycogen Phosphorylase Isoenzyme BB, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
