NCBI Description

This gene is a member of the stromal interaction molecule (STIM) family and likely arose, along with related family member STIM1, from a common ancestral gene. The encoded protein functions to regulate calcium concentrations in the cytosol and endoplasmic reticulum, and is involved in the activation of plasma membrane Orai Ca(2+) entry channels. This gene initiates translation from a non-AUG (UUG) start site. A signal peptide is cleaved from the resulting protein. Multiple transcript variants result from alternative splicing. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2009]

Uniprot Description

Plays a role in mediating store-operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE), a Ca2+ influx following depletion of intracellular Ca2+ stores. Functions as a highly sensitive Ca2+ sensor in the endoplasmic reticulum which activates both store-operated and store-independent Ca2+-influx. Regulates basal cytosolic and endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ concentrations. Upon mild variations of the endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ concentration, translocates from the endoplasmic reticulum to the plasma membrane where it probably activates the Ca2+ release-activated Ca2+ (CRAC) channels ORAI1, ORAI2 and ORAI3. May inhibit STIM1-mediated Ca2+ influx.

Product Notes

The STIM2 stim2 (Catalog #AAA543288) is a Positive Control and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's STIM2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Western Blot: 1:500. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the STIM2 stim2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "STIM2, Positive Control" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
