This gene encodes a class III member of the beta tubulin protein family. Beta tubulins are one of two core protein families (alpha and beta tubulins) that heterodimerize and assemble to form microtubules. This protein is primarily expressed in neurons and may be involved in neurogenesis and axon guidance and maintenance. Mutations in this gene are the cause of congenital fibrosis of the extraocular muscles type 3. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. A pseudogene of this gene is found on chromosome 6.

Uniprot Description

TUBB3: Tubulin is the major constituent of microtubules. It binds two moles of GTP, one at an exchangeable site on the beta chain and one at a non-exchangeable site on the alpha-chain. TUBB3 plays a critical role in proper axon guidance and mantainance. Dimer of alpha and beta chains. Expression is primarily restricted to central and peripheral nervous system. Greatly increased expression in most cancerous tissues. Belongs to the tubulin family.

Protein type: Motility/polarity/chemotaxis; Cytoskeletal

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 16q24.3

Cellular Component: microtubule; cell soma; axon; cytoplasm; dendrite; nucleus

Molecular Function: GTPase activity; protein binding; GTP binding; structural constituent of cytoskeleton; peptide binding

Biological Process: protein polymerization; axon guidance; mitosis; 'de novo' posttranslational protein folding; cellular protein metabolic process; protein folding; transmembrane transport; microtubule-based process

Disease: Fibrosis Of Extraocular Muscles, Congenital, 3a, With Or Without Extraocular Involvement; Cortical Dysplasia, Complex, With Other Brain Malformations 1

Product Notes

The TUBB3 tubb3 (Catalog #AAA9141035) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The TUBB3 Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's TUBB3 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunoprecipitation (IP). WB: 1:500-1:2000 IF: 1:50-1:100 IP: 1:50-1:100. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the TUBB3 tubb3 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "TUBB3, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
