NCBI Description

This gene encodes an enzyme, consisting of two identical proteins, which catalyzes the isomerization of glyceraldehydes 3-phosphate (G3P) and dihydroxy-acetone phosphate (DHAP) in glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. Mutations in this gene are associated with triosephosphate isomerase deficiency. Pseudogenes have been identified on chromosomes 1, 4, 6 and 7. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2009]

Uniprot Description

Catalytic activity: D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate = glycerone phosphate.

Pathway: Carbohydrate biosynthesis; gluconeogenesis.Carbohydrate degradation; glycolysis; D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate from glycerone phosphate: step 1/1.

Subunit structure: Homodimer. Ref.27 Ref.29

Post-translational modification: The initiator methionine for isoform 2 is removed.

Involvement in disease: Triosephosphate isomerase deficiency (TPI deficiency) [MIM:190450]: Autosomal recessive disorder. It is the most severe clinical disorder of glycolysis. It is associated with neonatal jaundice, chronic hemolytic anemia, progressive neuromuscular dysfunction, cardiomyopathy and increased susceptibility to infection.Note: The disease is caused by mutations affecting the gene represented in this entry.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the triosephosphate isomerase family.

Product Notes

The TPI1 tpi1 (Catalog #AAA648314) is an Antibody produced from Goat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The TPI1, CT (Triosephosphate Isomerase, TIM, Triose-phosphate Isomerase, TPI) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's TPI1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EL/EIA), Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry. Dilution: ELISA: 1:16,000 Western Blot: 0.01-0.03ug/ml Immunohistochemistry (Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded): 5ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the TPI1 tpi1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "TPI1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
