NCBI Description

This gene encodes a protein that is a member of the SUMO (small ubiquitin-like modifier) protein family. It functions in a manner similar to ubiquitin in that it is bound to target proteins as part of a post-translational modification system. However, unlike ubiquitin which targets proteins for degradation, this protein is involved in a variety of cellular processes, such as nuclear transport, transcriptional regulation, apoptosis, and protein stability. It is not active until the last four amino acids of the carboxy-terminus have been cleaved off. Several pseudogenes have been reported for this gene. Alternate transcriptional splice variants encoding different isoforms have been characterized. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

SUMO3: Ubiquitin-like protein which can be covalently attached to target lysines either as a monomer or as a lysine-linked polymer. Does not seem to be involved in protein degradation and may function as an antagonist of ubiquitin in the degradation process. Plays a role in a number of cellular processes such as nuclear transport, DNA replication and repair, mitosis and signal transduction. Covalent attachment to its substrates requires prior activation by the E1 complex SAE1-SAE2 and linkage to the E2 enzyme UBE2I, and can be promoted by an E3 ligase such as PIAS1-4, RANBP2 or CBX4. Covalently attached to a number of proteins. Interacts with USP25 (via ts SIM domain); the interaction sumoylates USP25 and inhibits its ubiquitin hydrolyzing activity. Interacts with SAE2 and UBE2I. Expressed predominantly in liver. Belongs to the ubiquitin family. SUMO subfamily.

Product Notes

The SUMO sumo3 (Catalog #AAA6501542) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The SUMO, Pan (Small Ubiquitin-related Modifier 1, SUMO-1, Ubiquitin-like Protein SMT3C, SMT3 Homolog 3, Ubiquitin-homology Domain Protein PIC1, Ubiquitin-like Protein UBL1, GAP Modifying Protein 1, GMP1, Sentrin, SMT3C, SMT3H3, UBL1, Small Ubiquitin-related reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's SUMO can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC), ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB). IHC: 1:50-1:100 ELISA: 1:1,000 WB: 1:100-1:500 Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SUMO sumo3 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SUMO, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
