NCBI Description

This gene encodes a protein that is a subunit of troponin, which is a regulatory complex located on the thin filament of the sarcomere. This complex regulates striated muscle contraction in response to fluctuations in intracellular calcium concentration. This complex is composed of three subunits: troponin C, which binds calcium, troponin T, which binds tropomyosin, and troponin I, which is an inhibitory subunit. This protein is the slow skeletal troponin T subunit. Mutations in this gene cause nemaline myopathy type 5, also known as Amish nemaline myopathy, a neuromuscular disorder characterized by muscle weakness and rod-shaped, or nemaline, inclusions in skeletal muscle fibers which affects infants, resulting in death due to respiratory insufficiency, usually in the second year. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

TNNT1: Troponin T is the tropomyosin-binding subunit of troponin, the thin filament regulatory complex which confers calcium-sensitivity to striated muscle actomyosin ATPase activity. Defects in TNNT1 are the cause of nemaline myopathy type 5 (NEM5); also known as Amish nemaline myopathy (ANM). A form of nemaline myopathy. Nemaline myopathies are muscular disorders characterized by muscle weakness of varying severity and onset, and abnormal thread-or rod-like structures in muscle fibers on histologic examination. Nemaline myopathy type 5 is a severe and progressive form common among Old Order Amish. Affected infants display tremors with hypotonia and mild contractures of the shoulders and hips. Proximal contractures progressively weaken and a pectus carinatum deformity develops before children die of respiratory insufficiency, usually in the second year. Belongs to the troponin T family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The TNNT1 tnnt1 (Catalog #AAA8242831) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-sTnT Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat, Bovine, Pig and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's sTnT can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Western Blot: (1/500 - 1/1000). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the TNNT1 tnnt1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "sTnT, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
