NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
The protein encoded by this gene is a potential transmembrane protein that is phosphorylated upon DNA damage. Defects in this gene are a cause of spastic paraplegia type 11 (SPG11). Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, May 2009]
Uniprot Description
Subunit structure: Interacts with AP5Z1, AP5B1, AP5S1 and ZFYVE26. Ref.10
Subcellular location: Membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein
Potential. Cytoplasm › cytosol. Nucleus. Note: Mainly cytoplasmic. Ref.8
Tissue specificity: Expressed in all structures of brain, with a high expression in cerebellum. Ref.8
Involvement in disease: Spastic paraplegia 11, autosomal recessive (SPG11) [MIM:604360]: A form of spastic paraplegia, a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by a slow, gradual, progressive weakness and spasticity of the lower limbs. Rate of progression and the severity of symptoms are quite variable. Initial symptoms may include difficulty with balance, weakness and stiffness in the legs, muscle spasms, and dragging the toes when walking. In some forms of the disorder, bladder symptoms (such as incontinence) may appear, or the weakness and stiffness may spread to other parts of the body.Note: The disease is caused by mutations affecting the gene represented in this entry. Ref.8 Ref.11
Sequence caution: The sequence AAH24161.2 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation. Translation N-terminally shortened. The sequence AAX54692.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation. Translation N-terminally extended. The sequence BAB15065.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation. The SPG11 spg11 (Catalog #AAA647211) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The SPG11 (Spatacsin, Colorectal Carcinoma-associated Protein, Spastic Paraplegia 11 Protein, KIAA1840, FLJ21439, DKFZp762B1512, FLJ21439) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's SPG11 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Suitable for use in Western Blot. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SPG11 spg11 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SPG11, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
