NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the Sox (Sry-related high mobility group box) family of transcription factors involved in the regulation of embryonic development. The encoded protein plays a role in the determination of cell fate and in maintaining cell identity. This gene regulates tumor angiogenesis and tumor progression. Mutations in the human gene are associated with vesicoureteral reflux, characterized by the backward flow of urine from the bladder into the ureters or the kidney. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2014]

Uniprot Description

SOX17: Acts as transcription regulator that binds target promoter DNA and bends the DNA. Binds to the sequences 5'- AACAAT-'3 or 5'-AACAAAG-3'. Modulates transcriptional regulation via WNT3A. Inhibits Wnt signaling. Promotes degradation of activated CTNNB1. Plays a key role in the regulation of embryonic development. Required for normal looping of the embryonic heart tube. Required for normal development of the definitive gut endoderm. Probable transcriptional activator in the premeiotic germ cells. Defects in SOX17 are the cause of vesicoureteral reflux type 3 (VUR3). VUR3 is a disease belonging to the group of congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract. It is characterized by the reflux of urine from the bladder into the ureters and sometimes into the kidneys, and is a risk factor for urinary tract infections. Primary disease results from a developmental defect of the ureterovesical junction. In combination with intrarenal reflux, the resulting inflammatory reaction may result in renal injury or scarring, also called reflux nephropathy. Extensive renal scarring impairs renal function and may predispose patients to hypertension, proteinuria, renal insufficiency and end-stage renal disease.

Product Notes

The Sox17 sox17 (Catalog #AAA6459393) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Sox17 (Transcription Factor SOX-17, Sox17, Sox-17) (MaxLight 650) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Sox17 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). WB: 1:1000 Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Sox17 sox17 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Sox17, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
