NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the SMAD, a family of proteins similar to the gene products of the Drosophila gene 'mothers against decapentaplegic' (Mad) and the C. elegans gene Sma. SMAD proteins are signal transducers and transcriptional modulators that mediate multiple signaling pathways. This protein mediates the signal of the transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta, and thus regulates multiple cellular processes, such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation. This protein is recruited to the TGF-beta receptors through its interaction with the SMAD anchor for receptor activation (SARA) protein. In response to TGF-beta signal, this protein is phosphorylated by the TGF-beta receptors. The phosphorylation induces the dissociation of this protein with SARA and the association with the family member SMAD4. The association with SMAD4 is important for the translocation of this protein into the nucleus, where it binds to target promoters and forms a transcription repressor complex with other cofactors. This protein can also be phosphorylated by activin type 1 receptor kinase, and mediates the signal from the activin. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been observed for this gene. Uniprot Description
SMAD2: ubiquitously expressed transcription factor phosphorylated and activated by TGF-beta receptor-type kinases. Participates in a wide range of critical processes including morphogenesis, cell-fate determination, proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. Phosphorylated Smads dimerize with collaborating Smad4 and are translocated into the nucleus, where the transcription of target genes is stimulated. Two alternatively spliced isoforms have been described.

Product Notes
The SMAD2 smad2 (Catalog #AAA6438100) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The SMAD2, Phosphorylated (S467) (SMAD Family Member 2, SMAD 2, V18, JV18-1, MADH2, Mothers Against Decapentaplegic Homolog 2, MADR2, MGC22139, MGC34440, hMAD-2, hSMAD2) (PE) reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's SMAD2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). WB: 1:500-1:1000 Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SMAD2 smad2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SMAD2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
