Related Product Information for anti-SGK1 antibody
Serum-and glucocorticoid-inducible kinase 1 (SGK1), a protein kinase, shares significant structural similarity with other members of the AGC protein kinase family. The inactive SGK1 structure lacks the alphaC helix and this unique feature makes it distinct from other protein kinases. SGK1 is ubiquitously expressed, which plays a pivotal role in the hormonal regulation of several ion channels, carriers, pumps, and transcription factors or regulators. SGK1 plays an important role in the absorption of Na+ and water through the Na+ channel in the apical membrane of tubular epithelial cells. SGK1 expression is modulated by cell stress and hormones, including gluco-and mineralocorticoids. Compelling evidence suggests that increased SGK1 expression or function is related to the pathogenic stress hypothesis of major depression.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a serine/threonine protein kinase that plays an important role in cellular stress response. This kinase activates certain potassium, sodium, and chloride channels, suggesting an involvement in the regulation of processes such as cell survival, neuronal excitability, and renal sodium excretion. High levels of expression of this gene may contribute to conditions such as hypertension and diabetic nephropathy. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been noted for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2009]

Uniprot Description

SGK1: serum and glucocorticoid-inducible kinase is an AGC protein kinase of the SGK family. Rapidly induced in response to a variety of stimuli including serum, glucocorticoids, follicle stimulating hormone, osmotic shock and mineralocorticoids. Can be activated via PI3K-dependent and -independent pathways. Plays a role in activating certain potassium, sodium and chloride channels, suggesting an involvement in the regulation of processes such as cell survival, neuronal excitability and renal sodium excretion. SGK is negatively regulated by ubiquitin modification and proteasome degradation.

Product Notes

The SGK1 sgk1 (Catalog #AAA8100759) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-SGK1/SGK Antibody, Rabbit Polyclonal reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's SGK1/SGK can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunoprecipitation (IP). WB: 1:500-1:2000 IP: 5-10uL/mg of lysate. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SGK1 sgk1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SGK1/SGK, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
