NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene encodes for a light absorbing visual pigment of the opsin gene family. The encoded protein is called red cone photopigment or long-wavelength sensitive opsin. Opsins are G-protein coupled receptors with seven transmembrane domains, an N-terminal extracellular domain, and a C-terminal cytoplasmic domain. This gene and the medium-wavelength opsin gene are tandemly arrayed on the X chromosome and frequent unequal recombination and gene conversion may occur between these sequences. X chromosomes may have fusions of the medium- and long-wavelength opsin genes or may have more than one copy of these genes. Defects in this gene are the cause of partial, protanopic colorblindness. Uniprot Description
OPN1LW: Visual pigments are the light-absorbing molecules that mediate vision. They consist of an apoprotein, opsin, covalently linked to cis-retinal. Defects in OPN1LW are the cause of partial colorblindness protan series (CBP); also known as protanopia. Defects in OPN1LW are a cause of blue cone monochromacy (BCM). A rare X-linked congenital stationary cone dysfunction syndrome characterized by the absence of functional long wavelength-sensitive and medium wavelength-sensitive cones in the retina. Color discrimination is severely impaired from birth, and vision is derived from the remaining preserved blue (S) cones and rod photoreceptors. BCM typically presents with reduced visual acuity, pendular nystagmus, and photophobia. Patients often have myopia. Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. Opsin subfamily.

Product Notes
The OPN1LW opn1lw (Catalog #AAA6497562) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Rhodopsin, Red Green (MGC138309, MGC138311, OPSD, Opsin 2, Opsin 2 Rod Pigment, Opsin-2, OPN2, Retinitis Pigmentosa 4, Retinitis Pigmentosa 4 Autosomal Dominant, RP4) (MaxLight 750) reacts with Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Rhodopsin can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Paraffin. IHC-P: 1:200 on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded mouse retina tissue. Staining with citrate buffer, pH 6.0 is required. Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the OPN1LW opn1lw for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Rhodopsin, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
