NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
catalyzes the conversion of L-ornithine to putrescine [RGD, Feb 2006]
Uniprot Description
ODC: the rate-limiting enzyme of the polyamine biosynthesis pathway which catalyzes ornithine to putrescine. The activity level for the enzyme varies in response to growth-promoting stimuli and exhibits a high turnover rate in comparison to other mammalian proteins. Originally localized to both chromosomes 2 and 7, the gene encoding this enzyme has been determined to be located on 2p25, with a pseudogene located on 7q31-qter. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Protein type: Amino Acid Metabolism - arginine and proline; Cell cycle regulation; EC 4.1.1.17; Lyase; Other Amino Acids Metabolism - glutathione
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 6q16
Cellular Component: cytoplasm; cytosol; perinuclear region of cytoplasm
Molecular Function: catalytic activity; ornithine decarboxylase activity; protein homodimerization activity
Biological Process: kidney development; polyamine biosynthetic process; polyamine metabolic process; positive regulation of cell proliferation; putrescine biosynthetic process; putrescine biosynthetic process from ornithine; regulation of protein catabolic process; response to virus

Product Notes
The ODC odc1 (Catalog #AAA2028106) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Polyclonal Antibody to Ornithine Decarboxylase (ODC) reacts with Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Ornithine Decarboxylase can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Formalin/Paraffin, ELISA (EIA). Western blotting: 0.2-2ug/mL;1:250-2500 Immunohistochemistry: 5-20ug/mL;1:25-100 Immunocytochemistry: 5-20ug/mL;1:25-100 Optimal working dilutions must be determined by end user. . Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the ODC odc1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Ornithine Decarboxylase, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
