NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is an oxidoreductase that catalyzes the last step in mitochondrial fatty acid synthesis. Defects in this gene are a cause of childhood-onset dystonia and optic atrophy. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2017]

Uniprot Description

MECR: Catalyzes the reduction of trans-2-enoyl-CoA to acyl-CoA with chain length from C6 to C16 in an NADPH-dependent manner with preference to medium chain length substrate. May have a role in the mitochondrial synthesis of fatty acids. Belongs to the zinc-containing alcohol dehydrogenase family. Quinone oxidoreductase subfamily. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Lipid Metabolism - fatty acid elongation in mitochondria; Oxidoreductase; EC 1.3.1.38

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1p35.3

Cellular Component: mitochondrion; nucleus

Molecular Function: zinc ion binding; trans-2-enoyl-CoA reductase (NADPH) activity

Biological Process: fatty acid metabolic process; fatty acid biosynthetic process

Product Notes

The MECR mecr (Catalog #AAA9231682) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The MECR Antibody (Center) reacts with Human Predicted: Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's MECR can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), ELISA (EIA). WB: 1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MECR mecr for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MECR, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
