NCBI Description

This intronless gene encodes the receptor protein for melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH). The encoded protein, a seven pass transmembrane G protein coupled receptor, controls melanogenesis. Two types of melanin exist: red pheomelanin and black eumelanin. Gene mutations that lead to a loss in function are associated with increased pheomelanin production, which leads to lighter skin and hair color. Eumelanin is photoprotective but pheomelanin may contribute to UV-induced skin damage by generating free radicals upon UV radiation. Binding of MSH to its receptor activates the receptor and stimulates eumelanin synthesis. This receptor is a major determining factor in sun sensitivity and is a genetic risk factor for melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer. Over 30 variant alleles have been identified which correlate with skin and hair color, providing evidence that this gene is an important component in determining normal human pigment variation. Uniprot Description

MC1R: Receptor for MSH (alpha, beta and gamma) and ACTH. The activity of this receptor is mediated by G proteins which activate adenylate cyclase. Genetic variations in MC1R are a cause of susceptibility to cutaneous malignant melanoma type 5 (CMM5). Malignant melanoma is a malignant neoplasm of melanocytes, arising de novo or from a pre-existing benign nevus, which occurs most often in the skin but also may involve other sites. Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family.

Product Notes

The MC1R mc1r (Catalog #AAA6426210) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The MC1R (Melanocortin Receptor 1, CMM5, MSH-R, SHEP2) (AP) reacts with Human, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's MC1R can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). WB: 1:500-1:2000 Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MC1R mc1r for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MC1R, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
