Tissue Specificity
Predominantly expressed in kidney, lung, and liver. Also found in thyroid gland, stomach and, at lower levels in testis and small intestine.
Function
Member of the machinery of polarized transport. Required for the indirect transcytotic route at the step of the egress of the transcytosing cargo from perinuclear endosomes in order for it to travel to the apical surface via a raft-dependent pathway.
Note
Associated with lipid rafts. In polarized epithelial cells, restricted to the apical surface. In hepatocytes, as well as in polarized hepatoma Hep-G2 cells, found in the canalicular membrane, equivalent to the apical surface, beneath the canalicular actin cytoskeleton. In non-polarized Hep-G2 cells, distributed to the perinuclear region.
Preparation and Storage
Store at -20 degree C. Stable for 12 months from date of receipt.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a multispan transmembrane protein belonging to the MAL proteolipid family. The protein is a component of lipid rafts and, in polarized cells, it primarily localizes to endosomal structures beneath the apical membrane. It is required for transcytosis, an intracellular transport pathway used to deliver membrane-bound proteins and exogenous cargos from the basolateral to the apical surface. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

MAL2: Member of the machinery of polarized transport. Required for the indirect transcytotic route at the step of the egress of the transcytosing cargo from perinuclear endosomes in order for it to travel to the apical surface via a raft-dependent pathway. Belongs to the MAL family.

Protein type: Membrane protein, multi-pass; Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 8q23

Cellular Component: perinuclear region of cytoplasm; apical plasma membrane; integral to membrane; endomembrane system; lipid raft

Molecular Function: protein binding

Product Notes

The MAL2 mal2 (Catalog #AAA9629358) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The MAL2 Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's MAL2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA)(peptide). ELISA(peptide): 1:20000-1:40000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MAL2 mal2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MAL2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
