This gene is a member of the lipoma HMGIC fusion partner
(LHFP) gene family, which is a subset of the superfamily of
tetraspan transmembrane protein encoding genes. Mutations in this
gene result in deafness in humans, and a mutation in a similar gene
in mice results in deafness and vestibular dysfunction with severe
degeneration of the organ of Corti. It is proposed to function in
hair bundle morphogenesis.

NCBI Description

This gene is a member of the lipoma HMGIC fusion partner (LHFP) gene family, which is a subset of the superfamily of tetraspan transmembrane protein encoding genes. Mutations in this gene result in deafness in humans, and a mutation in a similar gene in mice results in deafness and vestibular dysfunction with severe degeneration of the organ of Corti. It is proposed to function in hair bundle morphogenesis. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

LHFPL5: May function in hair bundle morphogenesis. Defects in LHFPL5 are a cause of deafness autosomal recessive type 67 (DFNB67). DFNB67 is a form of sensorineural hearing loss. Sensorineural deafness results from damage to the neural receptors of the inner ear, the nerve pathways to the brain, or the area of the brain that receives sound information. Belongs to the LHFP family.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; Membrane protein, multi-pass

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 6p21.31

Cellular Component: apical plasma membrane; integral to membrane; stereocilium bundle tip

Biological Process: ion transport; auditory receptor cell stereocilium organization and biogenesis; detection of mechanical stimulus involved in sensory perception of sound

Disease: Deafness, Autosomal Recessive 67

Product Notes

The LHFPL5 lhfpl5 (Catalog #AAA9214489) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The immunogen sequence is 186-214. The LHFPL5 Antibody (C-term) reacts with Human, mouse (Predicted Reactivity: Rat) and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's LHFPL5 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), ELISA (EIA). WB~~1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the LHFPL5 lhfpl5 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "LHFPL5, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
