KCNC4 (Potassium voltage gated channel subfamily C member 4) belongs to the delayed rectifier class of channel proteins and is an integral membrane protein that mediates the voltage-dependent potassium ion permeability of excitable membranes. Assuming opened or closed conformations in response to the voltage difference across the membrane, the protein forms a potassium-selective channel through which potassium ions may pass in accordance with their electrochemical gradient.

NCBI Description

The Shaker gene family of Drosophila encodes components of voltage-gated potassium channels and is comprised of four subfamilies. Based on sequence similarity, this gene is similar to the Shaw subfamily. The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the delayed rectifier class of channel proteins and is an integral membrane protein that mediates the voltage-dependent potassium ion permeability of excitable membranes. It generates atypical voltage-dependent transient current that may be important for neuronal excitability. Multiple transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2010]

Uniprot Description

Kv3.4: This protein mediates the voltage-dependent potassium ion permeability of excitable membranes. Assuming opened or closed conformations in response to the voltage difference across the membrane, the protein forms a potassium-selective channel through which potassium ions may pass in accordance with their electrochemical gradient. Belongs to the potassium channel family. C (Shaw) (TC 1.A.1.2) subfamily. Kv3.4/KCNC4 sub-subfamily. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Membrane protein, multi-pass; Channel, potassium; Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1p21

Cellular Component: voltage-gated potassium channel complex; plasma membrane; integral to membrane; nerve terminal; neuromuscular junction

Molecular Function: voltage-gated potassium channel activity; potassium channel activity; delayed rectifier potassium channel activity

Biological Process: synaptic transmission; regulation of neurotransmitter secretion; protein homooligomerization; potassium ion transport

Product Notes

The Kv3.4 kcnc4 (Catalog #AAA3004210) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Kv3.4 (R11) Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Kv3.4 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunoprecipitation (IP). WB: 1:500-1:1000 IHC: 1:50-1:200 IF: 1:50-1:200 IP: 1:10-1:100. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Kv3.4 kcnc4 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Kv3.4, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
