NCBI Description

Kallikreins are a subgroup of serine proteases having diverse physiological functions. Growing evidence suggests that many kallikreins are implicated in carcinogenesis and some have potential as novel cancer and other disease biomarkers. This gene is one of the fifteen kallikrein subfamily members located in a cluster on chromosome 19. In some tissues its expression is hormonally regulated. The expression pattern of a similar mouse protein in murine developing teeth supports a role for the protein in the degradation of enamel proteins. Several transcript variants encoding different proteins have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2014]

Uniprot Description

KLK4: Involved in enamel formation. Defects in KLK4 are the cause of amelogenesis imperfecta hypomaturation type 2A1 (AI2A1). AI2A1 is an autosomal recessive defect of enamel formation. The disorder involves both primary and secondary dentitions. The teeth have a shiny agar jelly appearance and the enamel is softer than normal. Brown pigment is present in middle layers of enamel. Belongs to the peptidase S1 family. Kallikrein subfamily.

Protein type: EC 3.4.21.-; Secreted; Protease; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19q13.41

Molecular Function: protein binding

Disease: Amelogenesis Imperfecta, Hypomaturation Type, Iia1

Product Notes

The KLK4 klk4 (Catalog #AAA7046144) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The KLK4 Antibody reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's KLK4 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). Recommended dilution: IHC: 1:20-1:200. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the KLK4 klk4 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "KLK4, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
