Related Product Information for anti-KRT12 antibody
Meesmann corneal dystrophy (MECD) is an autosomal dominant disorder affecting the corneal epithelium. It is caused by heterozygous mutations in KRT3 or KRT12 gene. Mutation of KRT12 gene in exon 1, T419A and L132H is the molecular genetic change leading to the occurrence of Meesmann's corneal dystrophy in this Chinese family.

Uniprot Description

Function: May play a unique role in maintaining the normal corneal epithelial function. Together with KRT3, essential for the maintenance of corneal epithelium integrity

By similarity.

Subunit structure: Heterotetramer of two type I and two type II keratins. Keratin-3 associates with keratin-12.

Tissue specificity: Cornea specific. Ref.1

Involvement in disease: Corneal dystrophy, Meesmann (MECD) [MIM:122100]: An autosomal dominant corneal disease characterized by fragility of the anterior corneal epithelium. Patients are usually asymptomatic until adulthood when rupture of the corneal microcysts may cause erosions, producing clinical symptoms such as photophobia, contact lens intolerance and intermittent diminution of visual acuity. Rarely, subepithelial scarring causes irregular corneal astigmatism and permanent visual impairment. Histological examination shows a disorganized and thickened epithelium with widespread cytoplasmic vacuolation and numerous small, round, debris-laden intraepithelial cysts.Note: The disease is caused by mutations affecting the gene represented in this entry. Ref.2 Ref.3 Ref.8 Ref.9 Ref.10 Ref.11 Ref.12 Ref.13

Miscellaneous: There are two types of cytoskeletal and microfibrillar keratin: I (acidic; 40-55 kDa) and II (neutral to basic; 56-70 kDa).

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the intermediate filament family.

Product Notes

The KRT12 krt12 (Catalog #AAA8102039) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-Keratin 12/KRT12 Antibody, Rabbit Polyclonal reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Keratin 12/KRT12 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry-Paraffin (IHC-P). IHC-P: 1:200-1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the KRT12 krt12 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Keratin 12/KRT12, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
