NCBI Description

Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for nucleosome structure of the chromosomal fiber in eukaryotes. Two molecules of each of the four core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4) form an octamer, around which approximately 146 bp of DNA is wrapped in repeating units, called nucleosomes. The linker histone, H1, interacts with linker DNA between nucleosomes and functions in the compaction of chromatin into higher order structures. This gene is intronless and encodes a member of the histone H1 family. Transcripts from this gene lack polyA tails but instead contain a palindromic termination element. This gene is found in the small histone gene cluster on chromosome 6p22-p21.3. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Function: Histone H1 protein binds to linker DNA between nucleosomes forming the macromolecular structure known as the chromatin fiber. Histones H1 are necessary for the condensation of nucleosome chains into higher-order structured fibers. Acts also as a regulator of individual gene transcription through chromatin remodeling, nucleosome spacing and DNA methylation

By similarity.

Subcellular location: Nucleus. Chromosome. Note: According to Ref.9 more commonly found in heterochromatin. According to Ref.7 associates with actively transcribed chromatin and not heterochromatin. Ref.7 Ref.8 Ref.9

Tissue specificity: Ubiquitous. Expressed in the majority of the cell lines tested and in testis. Ref.1

Domain: The C-terminal domain is required for high-affinity binding to chromatin

By similarity.

Post-translational modification: H1 histones are progressively phosphorylated during the cell cycle, becoming maximally phosphorylated during late G2 phase and M phase, and being dephosphorylated sharply thereafter

By similarity. Phosphorylated at Thr-11 by GSK3B during mitosis in prometaphase and dephosphorylated in telophase. Ref.13

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the histone H1/H5 family.Contains 1 H15 (linker histone H1/H5 globular) domain.

Product Notes

The HIST1H1B hist1h1b (Catalog #AAA7122078) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Histone H1 Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Histone H1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunofluorescence (IF), ELISA (EIA). WB: 1:500-1:2000 IHC: 1:100-1:300 IF: 1:200-1:1000 ELISA: 1:20000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the HIST1H1B hist1h1b for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Histone H1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
