Target Description: GSN binds to the 'plus' ends of actin monomers and filaments to prevent monomer exchange. It is a calcium-regulated protein, which functions in both assembly and disassembly of actin filaments. Defects in the gene encoding GSN are a cause of familial amyloidosis Finnish type (FAF).The protein encoded by this gene binds to the 'plus' ends of actin monomers and filaments to prevent monomer exchange. NCBI Description

Multiple transcript variants encoding several different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Gelsolin: a calcium-regulated, actin-modulating protein that binds to the plus (or barbed) ends of actin monomers or filaments, preventing monomer exchange (end-blocking or capping). It can promote the assembly of monomers into filaments (nucleation) as well as sever filaments already formed. Its expression is significantly decreased in many tumors and transformed cell lines. Gelsolin and other proteins including E-cadherin, BRCA, p21WAF, HoxA5, and retinoic acid receptor II are regulated by epigenetic changes in breast cancers. Gelsolin helps mediate the ability of HDAC inhibitors to protect neurons from oxygen/glucose deprivation. Two human isoforms are produced by alternative initiation.

Product Notes

The GSN gsn (Catalog #AAA3211586) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The GSN antibody - C-terminal region reacts with Cow, Dog, Guinea Pig, Horse, Human, Mouse, Rabbit, Rat, Sheep, Zebrafish and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's GSN can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GSN gsn for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: Synthetic peptide located within the following region: KPMIIYKGGT SREGGQTAPA STRLFQVRAN SAGATRAVEV LPKAGALNSN. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "GSN, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
