NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
The protein encoded by this gene has been termed a 'growth' or 'plasticity' protein because it is expressed at high levels in neuronal growth cones during development and axonal regeneration. This protein is considered a crucial component of an effective regenerative response in the nervous system. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Uniprot Description
GAP43: This protein is associated with nerve growth. It is a major component of the motile growth cones that form the tips of elongating axons. Plays a role in axonal and dendritic filopodia induction. Identified in a complex containing FGFR4, NCAM1, CDH2, PLCG1, FRS2, SRC, SHC1, GAP43 and CTTN. Binds calmodulin with a greater affinity in the absence of Ca(2+) than in its presence. Belongs to the neuromodulin family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
Protein type: Cell surface
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3q13.31
Cellular Component: axon; cell junction; cytoplasm; filopodium membrane; plasma membrane; postsynaptic density
Molecular Function: calmodulin binding; phosphatidylinositol phosphate binding; phosphatidylserine binding; protein binding
Biological Process: axon choice point recognition; axon guidance; cell fate commitment; glial cell differentiation; protein kinase C-activating G-protein coupled receptor signaling pathway; regulation of filopodium formation; regulation of growth; response to wounding; tissue regeneration

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Growth Associated Protein 43, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
