NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
Glutathione peroxidase catalyzes the reduction of hydrogen peroxide, organic hydroperoxide, and lipid peroxides by reduced glutathione and functions in the protection of cells against oxidative damage. Human plasma glutathione peroxidase has been shown to be a selenium-containing enzyme and the UGA codon is translated into a selenocysteine. Through alternative splicing and transcription initiation, rat produces proteins that localize to the nucleus, mitochondrion, and cytoplasm. In humans, experimental evidence for alternative splicing exists; alternative transcription initiation and the cleavage sites of the mitochondrial and nuclear transit peptides need to be experimentally verified. [provided by RefSeq]
Uniprot Description
GPX4: Protects cells against membrane lipid peroxidation and cell death. Required for normal sperm development and male fertility. Could play a major role in protecting mammals from the toxicity of ingested lipid hydroperoxides. Essential for embryonic development. Protects from radiation and oxidative damage. Belongs to the glutathione peroxidase family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative initiation.

Product Notes
The GPX4 (Catalog #AAA623380) is an Antibody produced from Goat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The GPX4 (Glutathione Peroxidase 4, Phospholipid Hydroperoxidase, HGNC:4556, PHGPx, snGPx, sperm nucleus glutathione peroxidase) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's GPX4 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EL/EIA), Western Blot (WB). Suitable for use in ELISA and Western Blot. Dilution: Peptide ELISA: 1:16,000. Western Blot: 0.3-1ug/ml. A band is detected at 9kD in Human Kidney and Testis lysates and in lysates of cell line HEK293 (calculated MW of 22.1kDa according to NP_002076.2). Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GPX4 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "GPX4, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
