Related Product Information for anti-GPX4 antibody
GPX4 polyclonal antibody MBS7049412 was produced in the rabbit immunized by using the Recombinant Human Phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase, mitochondrial protein (74-197AA) as the immunogen. The target protein GPX4 belongs to the glutathione peroxidase family, members of which catalyze the reduction of hydrogen peroxide, organic hydroperoxides and lipid hydroperoxides. It plays a key role in protecting cells from oxidative damage by preventing membrane lipid peroxidation. Diseases associated with GPX4 include Spondylometaphyseal Dysplasia, Sedaghatian Type and Male Infertility. This Rabbit anti-Homo sapiens (Human) GPX4 Polyclonal antibody was tested in the ELISA, WB, IHC and IF applications. The non-conjugated IgG got purified by protein G and reached up to 95% in purity. It reacts with the GPX4 proteins of human or mouse or rat-origin and may be used to detect the endogenous levels of GPX4 protein

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the glutathione peroxidase family, members of which catalyze the reduction of hydrogen peroxide, organic hydroperoxides and lipid hydroperoxides, and thereby protect cells against oxidative damage. Several isozymes of this gene family exist in vertebrates, which vary in cellular location and substrate specificity. This isozyme has a high preference for lipid hydroperoxides and protects cells against membrane lipid peroxidation and cell death. It is also required for normal sperm development; thus, it has been identified as a 'moonlighting' protein because of its ability to serve dual functions as a peroxidase, as well as a structural protein in mature spermatozoa. Mutations in this gene are associated with Sedaghatian type of spondylometaphyseal dysplasia (SMDS). This isozyme is also a selenoprotein, containing the rare amino acid selenocysteine (Sec) at its active site. Sec is encoded by the UGA codon, which normally signals translation termination. The 3' UTRs of selenoprotein mRNAs contain a conserved stem-loop structure, designated the Sec insertion sequence (SECIS) element, that is necessary for the recognition of UGA as a Sec codon, rather than as a stop signal. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2016]

Uniprot Description

GPX4: Protects cells against membrane lipid peroxidation and cell death. Required for normal sperm development and male fertility. Could play a major role in protecting mammals from the toxicity of ingested lipid hydroperoxides. Essential for embryonic development. Protects from radiation and oxidative damage. Belongs to the glutathione peroxidase family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative initiation.

Product Notes

The GPX4 gpx4 (Catalog #AAA7049412) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The GPX4 Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's GPX4 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunofluorescence (IF). IHC: 1: 20-1: 200 IF: 1: 50-1: 200. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GPX4 gpx4 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "GPX4, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
